Heart. Magnesium is absolutely essential for the proper functioning of the heart. It acts like a nourishing oil, lubricating the heart muscle and easing its work. A lack of it in the body leads to spasm of the heart, and it stops beating. It is important to understand that our lives will be considerably extended if enough magnesium circulates in our cells, and we will not be struck down by a heart attack.

As early as 1935 it was proven that magnesium can be used to treat cardiac arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia and ventricular arrhythmias.

Magnesium deficiency is directly linked to heart disease. Low magnesium concentrations have been found in patients who have suffered a heart attack, and supplementing with magnesium products leads to a significant improvement in cardiac function. Fatal heart attacks are far more common in regions where the water has a low magnesium content and the average dietary intake of magnesium is often below 200–400 mg per day.

Magnesium is of exceptional importance for proper cardiac function and has a beneficial effect in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Magnesium helps to lower blood pressure. It is valuable in preventing death from a heart attack and protects against future heart attacks. It also reduces the frequency and severity of ventricular arrhythmias and helps prevent complications following bypass surgery.

Researchers at Northwestern University in Chicago have found that a lack of magnesium in the diet increases the risk of coronary artery disease. They conducted a study of 2,977 men and women using ultra-fast computed tomography of the chest to measure calcium levels in the coronary arteries. Measurements were taken at the start of the study, when the participants were between 18 and 30 years old, and again 15 years later. The study concluded that low magnesium levels in the body lead to increased calcium levels in the arteries and, consequently, to a higher risk of developing atherosclerosis.

Almost all adults are concerned about the condition of their heart and cardiovascular system. Some live in constant fear, wondering whether a pain or cramp in the upper body might be a sign of a heart attack. There is not a single American who has not lost a loved one as a result of a heart attack.

Owing to a lack of magnesium, the heart muscle can develop spasm, seize up and stop beating. Most people, even doctors, are unaware of this, but without a sufficient amount of magnesium we will die. It is important to understand that our lifespan will be seriously shortened if our cells do not contain enough magnesium, which in fact leads to a heart attack. And yet, when someone dies of a heart attack, no one says, “He died of magnesium deficiency.”
